Lens Lady Eyeglasses, Sunglasses and Contacts
Lens Lady goes social!

We’re trying to establish a firm social media presence in support of our eyeglass mission. So, naturally, this requires a presence at the most important blog venues, including WordPress as well as Lens Lady on LiveJournal.

Hopefully the messages we promote are going to help raise awareness for eyeglass donation internationally. I also really like the platform made available at blog.com and its international sites (we’re present now in Canada, including Viviti and Bravenet, and the UK, Ireland, German, French and Spanish).

Also, I joined Xanga and Squidoo. Personally, I’m not really much of an internet socialite, but perhaps being there will raise awareness for eyeglass donation, especially in the U.S. where Americans dispose of 10 million usable pairs of eyeglasses every year. I like Squidoo, and interestingly enough, the blogs are called “lenses”…perhaps there’s something to this!

Eyeglass collections

This is great news!  I collected my first pair of eyeglasses (and several more pairs) by just asking for them on the pedestrian mall in Boulder.  It’s good stuff.  One set will go to someone who has really bad vision and would be far beyond the limit for legal blindness, so that means I might have created one job too :)  It feels good.

Support World Sight Day!

Two Lions recommended that we support World Sight Day, which occurs on the second Thursday of October.  This year (2009), October 8th marks the celebration.  Try to do something good, and mark your calendars for World Sight Day!

We’re hoping to raise awareness for the day by launching our international Lens Lady sites in Canada and the UK beforehand.

Pearl Street En Vision learning

I began conversations with a friendly optometry group here in Colorado. It’s the Pearl Street En Vision.  I’m hoping they’ll be able to strengthen our message and contribute doctor-quality content.  They’re also passionate about the eyeglass recycling, and currently tell their customers to donate, so that’s a great start.  I drafted more than 100 questions about eyeglasses, contacts and eye health, and I’m hoping to get some good answers for the community.
